Collection: Pierre Auguste Renoir

Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841–1919) was a French painter and a leading figure of the Impressionist movement, celebrated for his vibrant use of color, luminous brushwork, and joyful depictions of everyday life. His paintings often portrayed lively social gatherings, intimate portraits, and sunlit landscapes, radiating warmth and sensuality. Renoir’s mastery lay in capturing the softness of skin, the shimmer of light, and the beauty of fleeting moments, making his work some of the most beloved in art history. Born in Limoges, France, Renoir began his career painting porcelain before studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1890, he married Aline Charigot, who appeared frequently in his works, and they had three sons. Despite suffering from severe arthritis later in life, Renoir continued to paint, even developing new techniques to work around his physical limitations, until his death in 1919.
