Collection: Peder Severin Krøyer

Peder Severin Krøyer (1851–1909) was a Danish painter celebrated for his luminous beach scenes, portraits, and depictions of the Skagen Painters, a community of Scandinavian artists in northern Denmark. Known for his masterful handling of light—particularly the golden glow of summer evenings and the cool shimmer of moonlit nights—Krøyer created works that blended Impressionist influences with a distinct Nordic atmosphere. His paintings often portrayed friends, fellow artists, and local fishermen, capturing both the elegance and the everyday life of the coastal town. Born in Stavanger, Norway, and raised in Copenhagen, Krøyer studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts before traveling extensively across Europe. In 1889, he married fellow painter Marie Triepcke, though their marriage was troubled. Despite personal and health struggles later in life, he remained a central figure in Danish art until his death in 1909.
