Collection: Margaretha Roosenboom

Margaretha Roosenboom (1843–1896) was a Dutch painter celebrated for her refined floral still lifes, particularly her delicate and richly detailed depictions of roses. Known for her subtle color harmonies, soft lighting, and precise brushwork, she brought a poetic elegance to her compositions, making her one of the most acclaimed female flower painters of the 19th century. Born in Voorburg, the Netherlands, Roosenboom was the daughter of landscape painter Nicolaas Roosenboom and the granddaughter of renowned Romantic painter Andreas Schelfhout. Trained by her father and later by her uncle, painter Johannes van Ravenswaay, she began exhibiting at an early age. In 1887, she married painter Willem E. Roelofs Jr., and the couple moved in Dutch artistic circles. Roosenboom continued to paint and exhibit widely until her untimely death in 1896, leaving behind a legacy of timeless floral masterpieces.
