Collection: Julius Leblanc Stewart

Julius LeBlanc Stewart (1855–1919) was an American painter based in Paris, celebrated for his luxurious Belle Époque scenes and portraits of high society. Known as "the Parisian from Philadelphia," he earned acclaim for his large-scale compositions depicting opulent gatherings, leisure activities, and fashionable women, often set in lavish interiors or elegant outdoor settings. His works combined refined detail, vibrant color, and an insider’s view of the elite social circles of the late 19th century. Born in Philadelphia to a wealthy family, Stewart moved to Paris as a child, where he studied under Jean-Léon Gérôme and other leading artists. His father’s connections opened doors to the cosmopolitan elite, many of whom became his subjects. Stewart never married and devoted his life to art, remaining an active figure in Parisian cultural life until his death in 1919.
