Collection: Jan Voerman

Jan Voerman Sr. (1857–1941) was a Dutch painter celebrated for his serene river landscapes and sweeping views of the IJssel River, often bathed in soft, atmospheric light. Known for his subtle color harmonies and tranquil compositions, he became a leading figure of the Dutch late-impressionist tradition. His works frequently featured the changing skies and reflective waters of his native region, capturing the quiet beauty of the countryside with poetic realism. Born in Kampen, the Netherlands, Voerman studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. In 1890, he married Anna Grietje ten Bruggencate, and the couple settled in Hattem, where he formed close friendships with other artists, including Anton Pieck. He was the father of illustrator Jan Voerman Jr., and his home became a hub for artistic exchange throughout his life.
