Collection: Giovanni Boldini

Giovanni Boldini (1842–1931) was an Italian painter celebrated for his elegant, dynamic portraits of high society during the Belle Époque. Known for his fluid brushwork, elongated forms, and sense of movement, Boldini captured the glamour, confidence, and personality of his sitters—ranging from aristocrats to artists—with unmatched sophistication. His portraits, often featuring fashionable women in sweeping gowns, blended realism with a lively, modern energy that set him apart from his contemporaries. Born in Ferrara, Italy, Boldini studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence before moving to Paris in 1871, where he became a central figure in the city’s artistic and social circles. He never married but was linked to several romantic relationships throughout his life, and he maintained a prolific career until his death in Paris in 1931.
