Collection: Frank Weston Benson
Frank Weston Benson (1862–1951) was an American painter celebrated for his luminous Impressionist works, portraits, and wildlife art. A founding member of the Ten American Painters, he gained acclaim for his sunlit depictions of women and children in outdoor settings, capturing the elegance and leisure of New England life with vibrant brushwork and masterful handling of light. Benson was also an accomplished etcher and watercolorist, producing iconic images of wildfowl and coastal landscapes that remain highly sought after. Born in Salem, Massachusetts, he studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Académie Julian in Paris. In 1888, he married Ellen Perry Peirson, and the couple raised four children, many of whom appeared in his paintings. Benson spent much of his life on the Massachusetts coast, where he balanced his passion for painting with an avid love of hunting and fishing.
