Collection: Eugène Galien-Laloue

Eugène Galien-Laloue (1854–1941) was a French painter celebrated for his bustling Parisian street scenes, rural landscapes, and military subjects. Working primarily in gouache and watercolor, he captured the charm and energy of late 19th- and early 20th-century France with delicate detail and a warm, atmospheric palette. His Paris views—often depicting boulevards, markets, and iconic landmarks—are prized for their lively depictions of everyday urban life. Born in Paris, Galien-Laloue began his artistic career illustrating military campaigns before turning to cityscapes and landscapes. To meet high demand, he sometimes painted under pseudonyms such as “L. Dupuy” and “J. Lievin.” Little is known about his private life, but he lived most of his years in France, dedicating himself to his art until his death in 1941.
