Collection: Eliseu Visconti

Eliseu Visconti (1866–1944) was a Brazilian painter, designer, and decorative artist celebrated for introducing Impressionist and Art Nouveau styles to Brazilian art. Known for his luminous color palette, fluid brushwork, and elegant compositions, Visconti created portraits, landscapes, and decorative panels that blended European modernism with a distinctly Brazilian sensibility. He was also a prominent muralist, producing iconic works for the Theatro Municipal of Rio de Janeiro. Born Eliseo d’Angelo Visconti in Giffoni Valle Piana, Italy, he emigrated to Brazil as a child and studied at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro. In 1892, he won a scholarship to study in Paris, where he trained at the École des Beaux-Arts and absorbed contemporary artistic movements. Married to Louise Visconti, he balanced his career between teaching, large-scale commissions, and studio painting until his death in 1944.
